Adding your own plug-ins to Yoxos

March 5, 2013 | 2 min Read

Yoxos is a great way to manage your Eclipse installs. With over 2,000 plug-ins to choose from, you can create your Eclipse, your way. But what if your favorite plug-in is not available in the Yoxos Distribution?

I am happy to announce that starting today, you can add your own update sites to a Yoxos Team profile, and use those plug-ins in your Eclipse install. If you have a Yoxos Team Profile, simply login to the Yoxos Site, navigate to the profile and add new sites.

Once a site has been added, Yoxos will index it and the contents will be available in the plug-in bar. Start typing the name or ID of the plug-in and add it to your install.

One of the challenges with adding custom repositories is validation. A Yoxos distribution has been ‘validated’, which means that for each plug-in, all the dependencies have been pre-calculated to ensure they are met. This means you won’t waste your time hunting for dependencies. We wanted to bring this same thoroughness to Yoxos profiles with custom content. To accomplish this we’ve added the ‘validate’ button which will pre-compute all the dependencies for your profile and notify you of any problems.

Once validated, you can be sure your profile will install successfully.

To use this feature with the Yoxos Launcher, make sure you have downloaded and installed Yoxos 5.6.
