The Eclipse and Equinox teams have released Milestone 7 of Eclipse 3.6 (Helios). This is the final Milestone and marks the feature freeze for the 3.6 release due out in late June. While I know people are reluctant to use Milestone builds — as there might still be bugs in the code — if you don’t help us test we won’t be able to fix the bugs. So why not grab the latest milestone and help kick the tires a bit.

There are a number of new features in this Milestone including:
A webkit browser for GTK.

Is the delay between putting the milestones up on http://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/downloads and actually putting them up on http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/ under Development Builds intentional, or is there something else going on? Finding and installing all the tools for some of those packages from the base M7 drop could take quite a bit of time.

  2. Yes, there is a reason. An Eclipse Simultaneous Release cycle (such as a milestone or a release candidate) starts with the Eclipse Platform team delivering the base system (Eclipse Platform download, Eclipse SDK, …). This is the ‘+0′ date in the one week Helios release schedule.
Other Eclipse projects, e.g. the Eclipse Modeling projects, are depending on this deliverable and build their frameworks and tools based on this build (‘+1′ … ‘+3′ dates).
The Eclipse packaging project (EPP) is the last in this chain and runs its builds against the full Helios repository, usually a week after the initial Eclipse SDK is available. These are the package that are available from the download page.

Just downloaded Eclipse 3.6 M7; was interested in testing out the upgraded infocenter, but didn’t find that included M7. Will it be available to preview before the official release (end of June)?
